Fixed-term contract may extend to more than one year
CEPD (Council for Economic Planning Committee) has proposed a revised Labor Standards Law to extend the fixed-term contract period since fixed-term contract is limited to one year currently. The amendments will extend the term to three or five years, and might raise the willingness of employers to hire more temporary employees.

CLA officials indicated that the contract specifications for the periodic adjustment of the draft amendment have been discussed by the Council of Labor Affairs, such as job agent during the leave without pay may increase to three years, and the type of fixed-term contract will be more specific.

In 1984, when drawing up the Labor Standards Act, temporary, short-term, seasonal and specific work are fixed-term contract, continuing to work is an indefinite contract. Furthermore, Labor Standards Act stipulates that temporary and short-term work shall not exceed six months, seasonal work may not exceed nine months, and although there is no specific time limit for specific work requirements, but if the term is more than one year, employers may need to inform the authorities.
