The Economy is Recovering-- Annual Growth of Salary Continues to Grow for 3 Months
The DGBAS (Directorate General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics of Executive Yuan) announced a result of employee salary survey in January 2010. It discovered that the regular salary increased to NT36,250/month, which is NT1,355 higher than the same period in last year. The annual growth of average salary has increased for the past 3 months. But at the same time, the average work overtime in January is 8.6 hrs, the highest in the past 17 months. It is said that the salary could not get back to the standard before financial crisis until the economy continues to recover in the second quarter.

The DGBAS announced that the unemployment rate has continually declined after last Aug. from 6.13% (the highest record) to 5.68% this January. The unemployment rate of February is 5.76%, 0.08% higher than of January. The DGBAS explained that the increase of unemployment rate is mainly caused by the end of temporary work before Chinese New Year. It is said that the recovering economy is not yet as good as the economy before financial crisis. Whether the employers would pay higher salary to employees depends on the economy status of the second quarter. An office worker said the overtime pay and subsidies canceled last year are gradually coming back, but without the salary raise, the days are still tough.
